Klopp announces Liverpool's latest "serious" injury

Updated: Dec 4, 2023

Liverpool defender Matip was injured during the Fulham match

In light of his celebration and happiness with Liverpool's great victory over Fulham 4-3, the news of Joel Matip's injury dampened Jurgen Klopp and all Reds fans in the joy of this exciting victory.

Matip left the match in the 69th minute, and Ibrahima Konate took his place after suffering an injury that Klopp confirmed was likely serious.

The German coach told the media after the match, "I do not expect this injury to be simple. He will undergo medical tests tomorrow and we have to find solutions."

The Cameroonian defender is the third injury to strike Liverpool in less than a week, as the Reds lost the services of Diogo Jota for a long period, in addition to goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who is expected to return at the beginning of the new year.

Liverpool's injured list includes Thiago Alcantara, who has not played any matches so far this season, alongside left-back Andy Robertson, as well as promising young man Stefan Pitic.

Despite the sadness of Matip's loss, Klopp spoke of his happiness over the victory over Fulham, saying, "The feeling was exceptional after the end of the match and achieving this victory. I do not think I have ever seen a match with so many beautiful goals."

Liverpool raised its points tally to 31 points in second place, two points behind leaders Arsenal, days after reaching the round of 16 in the European League.
