Koller on facing Sundowns: We learned the lesson well from the last visit

Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller insisted he had "learned the lesson well" from the last Sundowns game, ahead of another home clash with the South African club in the first leg of the 2023 CAF League semi-finals.

Al Ahly lost in his last visit to Pretoria 5-2 in the African Champions League groups last season, before succeeding in returning from afar in the tournament and achieving the eleventh title historically.

Before that, there was another bad experience for Al Ahly in South Africa, when they were defeated in the quarter-finals of the 2019 edition by five clean goals, the biggest defeat in the history of the African Red Genie.

Ahead of the new clash, Koller told the press conference: "We learned the lesson from the last meeting between us, we are well aware that the way Sundowns play has changed but as usual, our goal is to win both games or at least secure a place in the final."

"Everyone knows that Al Ahly's goal is to win titles and nothing else," he added.

"We're going to face a big team, that's a fact, they have players at the highest level but I'm just focused on my team."

The match between Al Ahly and Sundowns will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2023, and will start at 3 pm Egypt time.
