Manchester United gives Arsenal the lead in Premier League after a draw with Liverpool

Updated: Dec 18, 2023

Manchester United and Liverpool tied 0-0

A goalless draw prevailed over the course of the match between Liverpool and Manchester United, which was held at Anfield in the 17th round of the English Premier League.

The first half witnessed a clear advantage for Liverpool, who were close to scoring in more than one opportunity, especially from the corners, while United only showed one dangerous ball on Alisson's goal.

The most dangerous opportunity of all in the second half came from Alexander-Arnold's shot, which went past the goal in a strange way, followed by Rasmus Højlund's one-on-one miss after Alisson's brilliance.

Diogo Dalot received a red card in the 93rd minute after violently protesting against referee Mike Oliver, but fortunately for United, time had come for Liverpool to score the winning goal.

Perhaps Arsenal is the one who benefited most from the Reds' stumble, as it once again returned to being at the top of the Premier League standings.

The Gunners won over Brighton 2-0, with the London club reaching 39 points, compared to 38 points for Liverpool in second place, equally with Aston Villa, with Jurgen Klopp’s squad having an advantage on goal difference.

This is United's first draw this season in the English Premier League, after 9 wins and 7 defeats, bringing it to the 28th point and occupying seventh place, 6 points behind Manchester City, which is fourth.

Despite the positive results of coming away with a point from Anfield in light of the difficult circumstances for United this season, the Liverpool stronghold remains difficult for the Red Devils to score for the fifth match in a row in all tournaments.
