Pyramids defeated its guest, Mazembe, 1-0, in the match that was held at Air Defense Stadium for the first round of the group stage of the African Champions League.

This is the first participation in Pyramids’ history in the competition, and the victory over the giant Congolese club, which has won the title the second most in history with 5 championships, is the first for Jaime Pacheco’s squad in the group stage.

Pyramids' only goal came from South African striker Fakhri Lakay in the 54th minute of the second half, while the Egyptian club wasted a barrage of opportunities, especially in the last ten minutes of the match.

Pyramids' points tally rose to 3 at the top of the group standings temporarily until they face Sun Downs and Nouadhibou next Sunday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in South Africa, for the same group.

It is noteworthy that Pyramids will face Nouadhibou in the second round of the group stage on Saturday, December 2, in Mauritania.

It is noteworthy that Pyramids also occupies second place in the Egyptian League standings after 6 rounds, with 13 points, equally with Al-Ahly, but was eliminated from the semi-finals of the Egypt Cup (last year’s edition) by Zamalek after losing on penalties 4-3 before the last international break.
