Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Alejandro Garnacho told him that Lionel Messi unfollowed him on Instagram because he publicly favored Cristiano Ronaldo.
Garnacho has always declared in various forums that Ronaldo is his role model and the best in history, and he culminated in celebrating in the style of the “Don” his legendary goal against Everton last Saturday and Sunday.
Since April 2022, Messi unfollowed Garnacho, and at that time there were rumors that this was because of a photo that the Argentine player published on which he wrote, “Ronaldo is the best ever,” which angered his compatriot.
These allegations appear to be closer to the truth, given Ferdinand's assertion that the current Manchester United star told him the same thing.
“Do you know what I like most about Garnacho? He doesn’t care about anything,” Ferdinand said in statements reported by the Daily Mail.
He also added, "Garnacho told me that Messi unfollowed him on Instagram because he does not hide his preference for Ronaldo."
He added, "He came out without caring and clearly said that he is a fan of Ronaldo and that he is the best in history, even though he is a player in the Argentine national team."
The 19-year-old Garnacho participated in three international matches with the Argentine national team, but was excluded from the last two camps of Lionel Scaloni's squad for logical technical reasons.
Garnacho partnered with Cristiano Ronaldo at United for a few months last season before the Portuguese star left for Al-Nassr Saudi Arabia in January 2023.
