Eric Ten Hag, Manchester United coach, defended his team's goalkeeper Andre Onana, and considered that the numbers do him justice and make him the second best goalkeeper in the English Premier League this season.

The Cameroonian joined United for more than 50 million euros last summer from Inter, but the criticism does not stop against him after his poor performances, most recently the decisive errors in the Galatasaray match in the Champions League.

When Ten Hag was asked about Onana’s mistakes and his level during the press conference for the Newcastle match, the Dutchman responded, saying, “He has a strong personality and will be able to deal with the situation. Over the course of his first five months here, he was doing well with us.”

He also added, "If you analyze the matter well and based on statistics, you can see that he is the second best goalkeeper in the English Premier League. In expected goal saves, he is the second best goalkeeper in the Premier League."

He concluded, "He always showed a reaction after bad performances. He was like that against Bayern Munich and then he shined against Burnley. He has the character necessary to deal with the situation."

United are preparing for a big match against Newcastle at St. James' Park, and the Dutchman responded by saying, "It is a difficult team to face. We have a great challenge ahead of us. I love playing against them and we must present our best level and return to Manchester with the three points."

It is noteworthy that Newcastle eliminated United from the Carabao Cup after beating them 3-0 at Old Trafford in early November.

It is worth noting that Manchester United occupies sixth place in the English Premier League standings with 24 points, and Newcastle comes in seventh place with 27 points before their upcoming confrontation on Saturday.
