Ten Hag is under fire again because of Cristiano Ronaldo

Updated: Dec 14, 2023

The Ronaldo and Ten Hag crisis flares up again

Piers Morgan, the famous British broadcaster, took advantage of Manchester United's exit from the Champions League to mock his coach Erik ten Hag and remind him of the value of Cristiano Ronaldo and how the English club lost him.

Multiple crises broke out between Ten Hag and Ronaldo in 2022, which led to “The Don” leaving with Piers Morgan and attacking the Dutchman and United with full force, so his contract was terminated days later and hours before the start of the World Cup in Qatar.

Among Ten Hag's famous statements afterwards was that he "sleeps well" and has no regrets about selling Ronaldo, and Piers Morgan mocked him more than once by using this term.

This time, Morgan wrote on X after United's exit: "Congratulations to Erik ten Hag on breaking the record. United have become the first English team in history to concede 15 goals in the Champions League group stage."

He continued, "As a reminder, Cristiano Ronaldo, the man who was considered surplus to requirements by Manchester United by Erik ten Hag a year ago, scored 50 goals for his club (Al-Nassr) and the national team in 2023, which is the largest number of goals for any professional football player in the world."

Since Ronaldo's departure, United have failed to find realistic attacking solutions, as Ten Hag brought in last season with Foote Figurst, who scored only two goals, and Marcus Rashford was the only striker for the Red Devils and scored 30 goals.

As for this season, United paid 70 million euros to acquire Rasmus Hoyland from Atalanta, but he did not score any goal in the English Premier League and scored only 5 European goals, while Rashford’s distinguished level collapsed and he scored only two goals so far.
