The Algerian national team suffers a strong blow before the African Cup of Nations

The Algerian Football Federation announced the exclusion of Amine Gouiri from the “Desert Warriors” list that will compete in the 2023 African Cup of Nations due to injury.

According to the federation’s statement, the player who recently joined the Algerian roster underwent a medical examination on Monday morning, after which the medical staff decided to exclude him because he was not physically ready to compete in the African Nations.

The nature of the injury to the French star of Nice, who played only 4 matches with the Algerian national team, was not revealed after joining Djamel Belmadi’s squad for the first time during the break last October.

There is still an opportunity for Belmadi to replace Gouiri on the “Greens” list for CAN, but the coach has not yet revealed his options.

In this context, Belmadi could call up Said Benrahma or Yacine Brahimi, as they are in the same position as Guiri, but some reports say that the coach may surprise everyone and call up a defender.

At the same time, it is likely that Belmadi will not include a replacement for Gouiri, as he previously announced that he prefers to train a limited number of players, and Algeria's current roster includes only 25 players, just as the 2019 African champion would prefer.

It remains to be noted that Algeria will compete in the African Nations in Group Four, along with the teams of Mauritania, Burkina Faso and Angola.
