United announces: Casemiro out for several weeks due to injury

Manchester United have been dealt another blow to add to their crises, after it was announced that Casemiro had injured his hamstring and been sidelined for several weeks.

The Brazil international participated in the first half of Newcastle's Carabao Cup match, before being substituted at half-time with knee pain.

United issued an official statement announcing Casemiro's injury without specifying the exact duration of his absence, although press reports indicate that he has been out for nearly a month.

The 31-year-old joins United's big casualty squad, which includes Lisandro Martinez, Terrell Malasia, Luke Shaw, Amad Diallo and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Casemiro has played an important role at Manchester United in the last year, and his absence compounds the team's problems, especially as his leadership role was required in this difficult period at Old Trafford.

The former Real Madrid player has made 12 appearances in all competitions for the United this season, scoring 4 goals and assisting another.

Moroccan Sofiane Amrabat may be the only player available on United's squad to replace Casemiro and, to a lesser extent, his Scottish team-mate Scott McTominay.
