The Egyptian Football Association announced that Rui Vitoria, the coach of the Egyptian national team, has decided to exclude the trio of Imam Ashour, Hussein El-Shahat and Tariq Hamed from the team’s ongoing camp in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Egypt won its opening match in the qualifiers over the Djibouti national team 6-0, and the trio remained on the bench throughout the match, which was held at Cairo International Stadium.

After the match, Imam Ashour showed signs of anger in one of the shots, and it seems that this anger increased even more after Rui Vitoria’s decision to have the substitute players participate in supplementary training.

According to the Egyptian Federation’s statement, the reason for the trio’s exclusion was “non-compliance with the system and internal rules within the national team.”

Egyptian newspaper reports revealed that Ashour, Al-Shahat, and Hamed recklessly participated in training the substitute players after the Djibouti match, which angered Vitoria and made him decide to exclude them immediately.

Khaled Al-Dirandali, Vice President of the Egyptian Federation, confirmed this matter, and pointed out that Vitoria’s decision was “disciplinary” and received absolute support from Egyptian football officials.

At the same time, the Portuguese coach does not intend to replace the excluded trio with other players before the Egyptian national team’s trip to Liberia to face Sierra Leone in the second qualifying round.

Al-Ahly Club decided to investigate Imam Ashour and Hussein El-Shahat to find out in detail the reasons for this disciplinary punishment, in anticipation of taking other disciplinary steps against the duo, in addition to seeking the opinion of the team captain and who is present in the national team’s camp, Mohamed El-Shenawy, to confirm or deny what happened.
