Al-Ahly defeats Al-Ittihad in the heart of Jeddah and qualifies to the semi-finals of Club World cup

Al-Ahly defeated its host Al-Ittihad, 3-1, in the Arab Summit, which was held in an international framework, in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Club World Cup, at the Radiant Jewel Stadium.

The start of the match was exciting after Hassan Kadish made a mistake in touching the ball with his hand, so the video technology awarded a penalty kick for Al-Ahly, which Ali Maaloul succeeded in converting into the net of Abdullah Al-Mayouf in the 20th minute.

The decisive point in the match was in the last minute of the first half, when the referee awarded a penalty kick for Al-Ittihad from a handball by Mohamed Abdel Moneim, but Karim Benzema missed it after a distinguished save by Mohamed El-Shenawy.

In the second half, Hussein Al-Shahat succeeded in exploiting a quick rebound and scored the second goal in the 59th minute, and Imam Ashour quickly scored the third goal and completely killed the match in the 62nd minute.

In the last minute, Anthony Modest received a red card, followed by Karim Benzema scoring a face-saving goal for Al-Ittihad, ending the match 3-1 in favor of the Red Giants.

The victory is the first ever for Al-Ahly over Al-Ittihad in all tournaments, after 4 previous matches between them in which the Saudi club won 3 matches, most notably in the 2005 Club World Cup in Japan with a goal by Mohamed Nour.

With this victory, Al-Ahly will set up a date with Brazilian Fluminense in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup next Monday, at eight in the evening, Egypt time, at the Radiant Gem Stadium.

It is noteworthy that the winner of the Al-Ahly and Fluminense match will face the winner of the Manchester City and Urawa Red Diamonds match in the final of the competition next Friday.
