Bayern Munich bid farewell to the German Cup in the round of 32 at the hands of a third-tier team

Bayern Munich bid farewell to the German Cup in the round of 32 following a shock 2-1 loss to third-tier side Saarbrücken.

Despite a sweeping Bundesliga win over Darmstadt on Saturday, the Bavarian giants showed a very poor performance on their visit to the struggling third-tier side.

The Bavarian giants took the lead through Thomas Müller in the 16th minute, before Patrick Sonntheimer made the adjustment in the 45th minute.

Bayern tried a lot to score the second goal in the second half, but all attempts failed, and as the two teams prepared to enter extra time, Marcel Gauss scored the winning goal for the hosts in the 96th minute.

This is Thomas Tuchel's second trophy with Bayern Munich since the start of the new season, and the first was the Super Cup against RB Leipzig by losing in Munich with a clean treble.

It is noteworthy that this is the first time that Bayern Munich has lost to a team active in the third division since 2000.

It is noteworthy that this role also witnessed surprises with the exit of a number of Bundesliga clubs, such as Mainz and Freiburg, and the defending champions of the last two editions of the competition, Leipzig, bid farewell at the hands of Wolfsburg.
