Bayern Munich shocks Morocco before the African Cup of Nations

Nassir Mazraoui was injured and did not join the African Nations with Morocco

Bayern Munich announced in an official statement that Noussair Mazraoui will not participate with the Moroccan national team in the upcoming African Cup of Nations due to injury.

Mazraoui left the Bayern Munich-Manchester United match at Old Trafford at halftime after sustaining an injury, and was replaced by Konrad Leimar in the match, which ended with the Bavarian club's 1-0 victory.

According to the statement, Mazraoui suffered a tear in the muscles of his left leg, due to which he will be absent from the field for 6 weeks.

The period of absence undermines Mazraoui’s dreams of being part of Walid Regragui’s squad in the African Nations, where Morocco’s matches are scheduled to begin on January 17th.

The Moroccan national team, fourth in the world, is in one group with Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia in the African Nations held in Côte d'Ivoire.

Mazraoui plays a major role in the Regragui battalion, whether he is relied upon in the right or left back position, so it is a major blow for the Moroccans before setting off towards the “CAN” dream.

As for Bayern Munich, the blow of Mazraoui’s long-term absence is doubled with Kingsley Coman’s injury and his also needing 3 weeks of absence.

Mazraoui, 26 years old, participated in 17 matches this season with Bayern Munich in all tournaments, during which he succeeded in making 4 assists.

With Morocco, the former Ajax player was a key player in the achievement of the last World Cup. He also played 24 friendly matches in the Atlas Lions shirt, the last of which was in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers last November.
