Karim Benzema entered the history of the Club World Cup competition thanks to his goal in Al-Ittihad’s 3-0 victory over Auckland City in the preliminary round.

This was Benzema's fifth goal, making him third in the World Cup's all-time top scorers, equal to Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

The French international became the first player to score in 4 different editions of the Club World Cup, having previously scored in 3 other editions with Real Madrid.

Gareth Bale remains in second place among the World Cup's all-time top scorers, with 6 goals.

Benzema now has the opportunity to become the all-time top scorer in the Club World Cup, as he is only two goals behind leader Cristiano Ronaldo.

Benzema will play in the quarter-final match against Al-Ahly of Egypt, and in the event of victory, he will face Fluminense in the semi-final, after which he has guaranteed either to play in the final match or to determine third and fourth place, so the chances of the Frenchman seem great in terms of scoring at least a goal.
