The German national team may lose the services of Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane at the beginning of Euro 2024 due to his sending off in the friendly match with Austria on Tuesday.

Sane received the first red card in his football career after he attacked Philippe Moeni, the Austrian national team player, in the match that ended with Austria winning 2-0.

According to the rules of (FIFA), assaulting a player, whether in an official or friendly match, leads to his being suspended for at least 3 matches.

The German national team will play two friendly matches during the next international break in March, and may play a maximum of one more match before Euro 2024. Therefore, if the punishment is severe, it is most likely that Sane will not play more than one match in the group stage.

After the match, Sane apologized to the German fans for what he had done, and wrote on his X account: “An evening to forget in Vienna. I apologized to my teammates in the locker room for this behavior.”

He also added, "Despite all my feelings and ambition, this cannot happen to me, especially in our current situation."

Sane is experiencing the best period of his career this season after he scored 11 goals with Bayern Munich in all tournaments and assisted 8 others, which made him the focus of attention of Liverpool and Manchester City to sign him in the summer of 2024.

It is noteworthy that the German national team has suffered a significant decline in its level recently, even after the appointment of Julian Nagelsmann, as it lost its second friendly match in a row against Austria after losing earlier this week to Turkey 3-2 in Berlin.
