Wydad beat Sundowns in the first leg of the African League final

Wydad beat Sundowns 2-1 in the first leg of African League final at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.

The Moroccan club's goal came in the 41st minute of the first half after Rivaldo Coetzee accidentally put the ball into his own goal.

Moroccan Abdelmoneim Boutawil scored the equalizer for Sundowns in the 73rd minute from the penalty spot, before Anas Sergat scored the winning goal for the hosts in the 83rd minute.

Hamdo El Houni almost gave Wydad some reassurance in the final minutes after a powerful shot he fired, but unfortunately it hit the crossbar and deprived Adel Ramzi's battalion of a bigger victory.

With this result, Sundowns need a 1-0 win to become the African League champions, while Wydad need to draw by any score, or win by any result to achieve the first edition of the latest CAF tournament.

The two teams are scheduled to meet in the second leg of the final next Sunday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, to start the meeting at two pm Morocco time, the third Egypt time.
